Restaurants Scene
Sault Ste. Marie's ethnic variety over the past century, with its mix of French,
Italian, and many other Europeans has created a tradition of hearty cooking. Sault
Ste. Marie's work-hard traditions mean that the food
served here is meant to fill you up and energize you. In the past, that's been
important for the workers in physically demanding sectors like steel and forestry,
but is also great for those rugged individuals enjoying the scenic splendours
around Sault Ste. Marie.
In Sault Ste. Marie, you WILL find a restaurant for pretty well any kind of food along the very street you're driving along. On the Canadian side, there are three areas where there are numbers of restaurants: downtown/ Queenstown, along Great Northern Road, and going east along Trunk Rd. Great Northern has a large number of the family-oriented restaurants but, because of the number of hotels as well as it the proximity to all parts of the Sault, also has a range of non-family establishments as well. The restaurants in the Queenston area benefit By being in the central business (and shopping) district and attract steady clientelle throughout the day. On the American side (where they like to spell it "Soo"), there are two main ares where restaurants have clustered: Downtown close to the waterfront, and along the I-75 Business Loop, which also is a major shopping district for the area. Use the pop-down list at upper-left to quickly find restaurants by cuisine. You can use the Restaurant Search Form to quickly filter the restaurants by community/neighbourhood AND by cuisine. You can even search by postal code, even by street to find all restaurants really close to you. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Everyone can recommend a restaurant for our listings (please tell us why its "worthy") or you can send us your themed Top 5 list!
