Personal: Flea Markets
One of the joys of Saturday morning, other than not going to work, is the search for a bargain at a flea market. One man's trash might turn into your treasure. It's quite easy to spend hours searching tables hoping to find something for virtually nothing.
Here are some flea market tips.
Burrows Livestock Auction Ltd
225 Hwy 17 E, Sturgeon Falls
(705) 753-2010
Burrows is in Sturgeon Falls, north side of Hwy 17 east. It runs from March
to the end of December on Sundays and Mondays 8:00 am to about 4:30 pm. The
flea market is on both days, and the auction is held on Monday. Livestock is
available. The owners said that admission is free, but bring lots of money!
22nd Annual Walden Flea Market
TM Davies Community Cente, Walden
705-692-3110
The 22nd Annual flea market at Walden's community Centre. This year held on May 8, 1999.
Craft Fest 99
Bell Park, Sault Ste. Marie
705-673-5588
This is Northern Ontario's largest outdoor craft festival. This year held
June 18-20, 1999.
Management Services used to own the Exhibition Centre at 967 Falconbridge Road
(just south of Lasalle Blvd on the west side), but they no longer hold a
flea market there. (705) 560-5084
There are a couple of farmers' markets in Sault Ste. Marie as well:
- Farmers Festival Market on Shaugnessy St (250-674-5115)
- Notre Dame, on the east side, south of the Taxation Data
Centre (across from Cambrian Heights Drive)
The newspapers are an excellent source for who's holding a yard sale on
what day, where, what they're selling, etc. There are farm stands, where
farmers sell their own fresh produce, on the various country roads in the area.
